Mücke-Melder Cantilever Armchair FN21 Famos (D-variant), 1930s

The functionalist armchair FN21 Famos – Mücke-Melder at its best

The seating is fixed on only two points per side, which makes it also a masterpiece of ergonomics and furniture engineering.

Its form resembles the iconic cantilevered Brno Chair, designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1929-1930 for his renowned Tugendhat Villa in Brno, Czech Republic.
The original design by Marcel Breuer was obtained by Anton Lorenc in a patent dispute for the company Thonet.

After the second World War the Mücke-Melder company was nationalized but FN21 was produced further in the 1950s by Kovona NP (Czechoslovakia).
